Beekir Hopwood

This page is about the many wonderful animals and their owners (we love you too guys!) that visit us everyday.

These furry friends have brought lots of love and companionship into our customers lives and believe it or not their personalities and hearts shine through in a big way when they visit our shop. They have many characteristics that make them special and here we will showcase different families on an ongoing basis to share what their owners know make their pets extra special!

Here, Sherry Hopwood shares a few words about her furry family members – Zoe, Maya, Charlie and Beekir the cat.

Zoe LOVES her Mom. She loves kisses, sleeping under Mom’s sweatshirt while she works, sleeping under the covers..as long as Mom is in bed and did we mention, she loves her Mom? You will always find her within 2 feet of her Mom. Zoe was raised with a kitten and she prefers to play with the cat than with her dog family. Zoe has had the same favorite toy for over 10 years. “Mr. Fishy” is as big as she is and at night, she runs frantically to whatever safe place she put him for the day and brings him to bed for tucking in. (thank goodness Mr. Fishy is machine washable)

Zoe, Maya and Charlie

Maya loves catching lizards and other “toys” in the back yard but, her favorite pastime is to sit on the back of my living room chair and barking at everyone who happens to walk by AND… she actually loves to wear sweaters…she seems to have figured out that sweaters = warm. Maya is a Toy Xoloitzcuintli (aka Mexican Hairless) which is an ancient and rare breed and also the National Dog of Mexico. They were sacred to the Aztecs. They are a pure breed (not the result of human intervention) and their hairlessness is thought to have been the result of a spontaneous gene mutation that was later passed on to the New World hairless dogs. There is archeological evidence of Xolos dating past 3,500 years ago. She grooms herself like a cat and burrows in the back yard to eat gross things like slugs. They are still very primitive in temperament and not an easy dog to train. Xolo owners consider themselves very honored to be owned by their Xolos. I know I do. Maya is a rescue flown in from Texas and the adoption process was second only to an FBI background check. (kidding but, close)

Charlie loves his Mom, cookies, taking the fluffy white filling out of any new stuffed toy brought into the house and joining Maya in “Barkfests”. Charlie was a badly abused dog who was considered un-adoptable because he was so badly beaten. He had terrible trust issues and he considered all men “the enemy”. After two failed adoptions I rescued him, it was love at first sight. Once he was sure I wasn’t going to dump him off at the pound or beat him when he was “bad” he was willing to do anything I asked him to do and he loves his little buddy Maya. This poor guy just underwent cancer surgery and also had to have his spleen removed because of the damage done to it by whoever beat him.

Why They Love Kensington Pet Supply

They sure know their way there…every time I walk one of them they lead the way right to the doorstep. If you are closed, Charlie and or Maya will just stand on the step as if to say, “no way, I’m not leaving until I get a TREAT”. Maya loves the warm clothes you guys get in, Zoe loves your carpet (sorry about that) and Charlie loves the bully sticks! We all love that you are local, that you deliver and that you are like family! Oh and Beekir loves the tasty treats you get in!
